Personal Project Part 1

For my personal project, I want to develop my skills in Photoshop. I am a photojournalism major, but they literally never taught us how to use photoshop. So, I really only know how to do the bare minimum like color correct and lighten and darken photos. I know that photoshop is so much vaster than that, and I’ve always wanted to learn it. I think that this project could give me the opportunity to do something more illustrative with my photography and try out something new.

I’m going to use YouTube as my method of research because that’s where I feel there is a lot of Photoshop tutorials. Somethings I’m going to look up in particular are: dodging and burning, how to do levitation photos, how to add chunks of smaller photos into one big photo.

With this project I am going to attempt to do a photo essay I’ve always wanted to do. I’m really into like mystical forest photos and like girls in dresses in the forest and stuff. I think it would be cool to finally try to do that and try to push my knowledge of photoshop. I think that there are a couple skills that are essential to photography that I don’t have.

Something that I think really makes photography look amazing is the ability to dodge and burn. Which is like darkening the dark spots and lightening where it’s light in a photo, and it really takes it to the next level. I could also try to do levitation photos, and stuff like that where I would merge two different photos, because I don’t know how to do that either. I could really just play around, and figure stuff out.
